BRONX - Cops said they have nabbed the two suspects in the deadly shooting inside a Bronx park which left four people, including two children, wounded.
The news comes less than 24 hours after investigators identified the suspects by name and released their photos. Police did not release the name of suspected gunman following the arrest since he is a minor. The 16 year-old was charged with four counts of attempted murder.
Cops charged Angel Hernandez, 20, with four counts of attempted murder as well. Cops said Hernandez drove the scooter in the deadly shooting.
At around 6 pm on July 11, two men on a motorized scooter rode up to Saint James Park in the vicinity of East 193 Street and Morris Avenue, near the Kingsbridge Armory.
The park was filled with scores of people enjoying the summer.
The rider on the back dismounted the scooter and then opened fire, cops said.
The gunman fired numerous rounds into the crowd striking a 6-year-old boy in the calf and grazing a 3-year-old boy in the calf. A 25-year-old man was shot in the lower back and a 23-year-old was shot in the left leg.
All the victims were rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital and are recovering.
It is unclear what was the motive for the shooting or who the intended target was. Also unclear if more charges are to follow. No word on when the first court date for the defendants will be.
