BRONX - A man selling candy on the subway repeatedly punched a teenager in the face on a train near Yankee Stadium. Cops believe the attack took place after the candy seller thought the teen was recording him with his cell phone.
At around 4 pm on March 19, a man selling candy was on a northbound D train at the River Avenue and East 161 Street subway station. Cops say the candy man began arguing with an 18-year-old when the teen would not move out of his way as the seller made his way through the subway car.
When the teen took out his cell phone, the candy man snatched it out of his hands and threw it at the other end of the subway car. Investigators say the vendor may have thought the teen was trying to record him with his phone.
The candy man then repeatedly punched the teen in the face with a closed fist. He then fled the subway car and ran out of the station.
The victim recovered his cell phone at the scene.
Cops did manage to snag a photo of the candy man. He is described as a man in his 30s with a medium build and long black hair in a bun. He was seen wearing a black leather jacket, black hoodie sweatshirt with white lettering in front, black face mask and carrying a purple book bag.
