Eight Men Charged in Years-Long Stolen Car Scheme Affecting More Than 100 Buyers  Bronx Voice  November 14, 2025  NYC LOCAL NEWS - Federal and local authorities say they’ve shut down a long-running stolen-car ring that hit New York City streets hard and stretched its impact all the way down the East Coast.  The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced charges against eight men accused of stealing more than 100 cars and selling them to unsuspecting buyers—often people who thought they were simply getting a good deal online. According to the allegations in a newly unsealed federal complaint, the group targeted mostly Honda, Acura, and Jeep vehicles parked on the streets of the Bronx and Queens. Van Driver Killed Crashing into Back of Tractor Trailer on Cross Bronx Expressway

BRONX - A driver was killed when his van slammed into the back of a tractor trailer on the Cross Bronx Expressway in Throggs Neck. 




At around 8 am on October 12, police responding to a 911 call in the center lane of the northbound Cross Bronx Expressway found a 2019 Chevrolet van smashed into the back of a 2017 Peterbilt Tractor. Cops found the 29-year-old driver of the van pinned inside the vehicle with severe internal injuries. 




Responding EMS pronounced the van driver dead at the scene.

Community Outraged


A preliminary investigation by police revealed that both the tractor and the van were traveling northbound on the Cross Bronx. When they reached Philip Avenue, the van struck the rear of the Peterbilt Tractor. What caused the van to slam into the tractor is unclear at this time. 


The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating. 


The 28-year-old driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene and was not injured. Cops say no criminality is suspected at this time. 


The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
