Cop Struck During Car Stop in Bronx

BRONX - A police officer was struck by a driver escaping a car stop after blowing through a red light in the Bronx. 


At around 5 pm on January 24, officers observed a black Mercedes Benz with Pennsylvania license plates drive through a red light on the corner of East 173 Street and Clay Avenue. Cops pulled the car over and attempted to investigate. Suddenly the driver peeled out in an attempt to flee the scene. In the escape the car struck one of the officers.

The fleeing Mercedes also sideswiped five parked cars. Two of the vehicles struck had passengers inside. 


The car was found abandoned minutes later a short distance from the scene. The driver fled on foot and his image was captured on surveillance video. 


The officer was taken to Columbian Presbyterian Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries to his knee, hands and back. 


The suspect is described as a man who is 20, dark complexion with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie sweater with white lettering in the front, black jeans and black sneakers.
