BRONX - A driver was killed when his van slammed into the back of a tractor trailer on the Cross Bronx Expressway in Throggs Neck.
At around 8 am on October 12, police responding to a 911 call in the center lane of the northbound Cross Bronx Expressway found a 2019 Chevrolet van smashed into the back of a 2017 Peterbilt Tractor. Cops found the 29-year-old driver of the van pinned inside the vehicle with severe internal injuries.
Responding EMS pronounced the van driver dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by police revealed that both the tractor and the van were traveling northbound on the Cross Bronx. When they reached Philip Avenue, the van struck the rear of the Peterbilt Tractor. What caused the van to slam into the tractor is unclear at this time.
The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
The 28-year-old driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene and was not injured. Cops say no criminality is suspected at this time.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending family notification.
