Jacobi Gets Stormwater Upgrade

BRONX - The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) joined with NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and the global design and consultancy firm Arcadis to announce the ongoing stormwater drainage upgrades at the Jacobi Hospital campus. DEP is investing nearly $5 million to build stormwater drainage and storage systems beneath three of the parking lots on the campus through its Resilient NYC Partners program. When completed, the stormwater drainage and storage systems will be able to capture more than 5 million gallons a year. The project will not only help to protect the hospital’s facilities, staff and visitors, but also create additional capacity in the larger Pelham Parkway sewer system, helping to reduce flooding throughout the neighborhood. DEP and Arcadis, who is managing the construction at each site, recently completed similar upgrades at Flushing Hospital in Queens and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn with a $1.78 million investment. ...

Gunman Who Sticks Up Smoke Shop Dressed Like the ‘Invisible Man’

Cops Looking for Patched Up ‘Getaway’ Car

BRONX - A man who donned a disguise that looked like it came from the movie “The Invisible Man” is being sought by cops for sticking up a Bronx smoke shop at gunpoint. Cops are now focussing on his less-than conspicuous-looking car. 





Police released surveillance video of the gunman who robbed the smoke shop in the Claremont Village section of the Bronx. The man was covered head to toe in his disguise. He wore large sunglasses that covered most of his face. He wore a white surgical mask and a large white baseball cap to cover the rest of his face. His hands were covered in blue surgical gloves. From the video no piece of skin was visible and is preventing authorities from getting a good description. 


However, the suspect’s getaway car was not able to blend as easily. Police released new surveillance video of the red SUV. The car’s driver’s side had two doors that were bright white. They appeared to be replacement doors that have not been repainted to match the rest of the car. 




Cops are looking for the car and its owner in connection with the stick up earlier this month. 





At around 10:30 am on July 7, the completely disguised suspect walked into the smoke shop at 212 East 167 Street. The man pulled out a gun and forced the 21-year-old and 37-year-old male employees into the rear of the shop. There he tied up the workers and removed $500 in cash and a cell phone. 



The masked man then ran out of the store and was last seen heading eastbound on 167th Street.  


The only description the cops have the suspect is that he is a man who is between the ages of 35 and 50. He is believed to be around 5 foot 8 to 5 foot 9.
