BRONX - A pair of brazen thieves stole the catalytic converters from five commercial vehicles parked in front of a Bronx bakery, around the corner from a police station.

At around 6:16 am on April 8, a sedan pulled up in front of 1568 Stillwell Avenue. Two men exited the vehicle and the driver remained behind the wheel.

Cops said the suspects are seen on surveillance video removing the catalytic converters to five commercial trucks parked on the street outside the bakery. They then jumped into the car and drove off southbound Stillwell Avenue.

The street the crooks struck is the site of a string of auto body and repair shops. During the week there is frequent activity with people coming and going.

The average cost to replace a catalytic converter is between $1,000 and $2,500. It is unclear what the total cost would be to replace converters on five commercial vehicles.
