By Dan Lynch   Occupational Therapist   VNS Health   Bronx Voice  October 6, 2025 NEW YORK - When I first met 87-year-old Lydia, I was coming to help her recover from a fall. BRONX - An ATV driver trying to avoid a police crackdown on illegal ATVs in the Bronx, hit a cyclist in front of cops and then took off.

Officers from the 40th Precinct on foot were conducting a crackdown on illegal dirt bikes and ATVs in the HUB. At around 5 pm on September 18, a uniformed officer was conducting enforcement when he spotted the illegal ATV at East 149th Street and Third Avenue. The officer issued verbal commands and motioned to the driver to stop.

Investigators say the ATV driver ignored the officer’s orders and blew through a red light striking a 44-year-old woman on a Citi Bike crossing the intersection. The bike rider had the green light.

The ATV driver took off before the officers ran over to the accident.

The cyclist was taken to nearby Lincoln Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the reckless ATV driver and are asking for the public’s help in catching him.
