BRONX, NY — Mount St. Michael Academy marked a century of Catholic education in the Northeast Bronx with a Centennial Mass led by Cardinal Timothy Dolan on Sept. 29, bringing together students, alumni, faculty, families and members of the Marist community to celebrate the school’s 100-year history.

The historic Mass was held at 10 a.m. in the Richard Tricario Sports Center on the Mount St. Michael campus, coinciding with the Feast of Saint Michael the Archangel.

Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York, served as principal celebrant for the milestone celebration, which highlighted Mount St. Michael’s century-long tradition of faith, brotherhood, service and academic excellence.

The celebration also featured a reunion of generations of Mount alumni and former faculty. Among those joining Cardinal Dolan were Bishop Dennis Sullivan ’63, Fr. Richard LaMorte ’58, Msgr. Joseph LaMorte ’68, Deacon Nicholas Ramoni ’77, Deacon George Pitula and Deacon Francis Orlando, both former faculty members.

Their presence underscored the lasting connections forged at Mount St. Michael and the role the Bronx school has played in Catholic education for generations.

Mount St. Michael Begins Its Centennial Year

Founded in 1926 by the Marist Brothers, Mount St. Michael Academy is celebrating its centennial throughout the 2026–27 academic year.

The school serves young men in Grades 6 through 12, providing a Catholic, college-preparatory education rooted in the Marist tradition. Its motto, “To the stars through difficulty,” reflects its emphasis on faith, leadership, service and academic achievement.

The Centennial Mass is only the beginning of a yearlong series of events honoring the school’s past while looking toward its future.

A Centennial Gala is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, 2027, at Marina del Rey in the Bronx.
