Social media claims of a serial killer targeting Black women in the Bronx are unfounded, Bronx Voice reports, citing NYPD data and verified cases.

On December 11, one Instagram user claimed, “It’s a serial killer running loose in the five boroughs and (the) news are not reporting it, neither are the cops.” But offered no information or proof to back up his claim.
On December 19, a TikTok user posted a similar claim pointing to a man found dead in Castle Hill with injuries to his head and hands. The Bronx Voice was unable to locate any information on a recent death in Castle Hill resembling what the poster claimed. The video received 42,000 likes and was reposted more than 10,000 times.
On December 29, TikTok user “stargirl3363” posted a video of herself apparently walking in the subway when she told viewers, “Apparently there’s a serial killer in the Bronx and Brooklyn,” but offered no proof of her claim. The young woman recalls how she and her fellow coworkers leave work very early in the morning. She continues, “So now some of them don’t even feel comfortable taking the subway home, because you’re like, I don’t want to die” and adds, “I live deep in the Bronx and I’m not paying like $90 to get home.” StarGirl’s video received more than 66,000 likes and was reported more than 5,000 times.
The Bronx Voice can report that six deaths had been reported in the Bronx by the NYPD or by reputable media outlets. The first was on Sunday, December 7, when Sean Grant, 28, was shot to death inside of 1744 Watson Avenue in the Soundview section. The following day police arrested Sean Grant, 28, who resides in the building where the shooting took place. Grant has been charged with murder.
According to published reports archeologists searching for Revolutionary War artifacts in Van Cortlandt Park discovered skeletal remains near the Major Deegan Expressway on Friday, December 12. The Office of the City Medical Examiner is currently working to determine the exact cause and era of that death.
Local media outlets reported on the death of a 72-year-old woman found outside of the New York Botanical Gardens at 2900 Southern Boulevard on the evening of December 16. One social media post was correct that this woman was found with trauma to her head and hands, but one outlet quoted a police official as saying the death was not believed to have involved foul play. The medical examiner will again determine the woman’s cause of death.
On December 26, police were called to the vicinity of Barnes Avenue and Adee Avenue in the Allerton section for a report of an “aided female” when officers from the 49th Precinct discovered a 4-year-old female who was not breathing. The child was rushed to Jacobi Hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Police have made no arrests in the case and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and the medical examiner will again determine the cause of death.
A fifth death was reported after a double shooting on December 27, inside of 1219 Adee Avenue in Allerton. Police say Eric Aitken, 15, of Waterbury, CT., was shot once in the chest and was rushed to Jacobi Hospital where he later died. Police continue to search for the gunman.
On December 27, the body of a young woman was discovered inside of 1182 Ogden Avenue in the Highbridge section. Police say the victim Shashamanie Thompson, 30, was found with stab wounds to her face and abdomen. She was transported by EMS to Lincoln Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Once again, the following day the NYPD announced the arrests of Beyonce Johnson, 24, who lived at the Ogden Avenue address and Saleh Ceesay, 21, of Alexander Avenue. Both individuals were charged in Thompson’s death.
