BRONX, NY - Now shoppers in the Bronx have to fear women pushing a baby carriage. Cops are looking for a woman pushing a carriage on Fordham Road who allegedly punched an elderly woman in the face and stole her purse.
According to the NYPD, the violent incident happened on April 18, 2026, at approximately 6:48 p.m. outside within the confines of the 46th Precinct.
Police say a 68-year-old woman was suddenly approached by an unidentified female suspect before being violently attacked and robbed.
Authorities stated that the suspect allegedly punched the victim multiple times in the face before stealing two purses and fleeing the scene on foot.
The suspect reportedly ran eastbound on East Fordham Road toward Webster Avenue after the robbery.
The victim refused medical attention at the scene, according to police.
The NYPD is now asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect connected to what many residents are calling a brazen daytime attack on a senior citizen in one of the Bronx’s busiest shopping corridors.
What has especially shocked people following the case is the allegation that the suspect was pushing a baby carriage or stroller during the attack.
The unsettling nature of the crime has sparked conversations online and throughout the community about public safety along Fordham Road, which is typically crowded with shoppers, commuters, and families throughout the day.
Local residents say incidents like this are becoming increasingly concerning, especially when elderly victims are targeted.
Fordham Road is one of the busiest commercial stretches in the Bronx, packed with retail stores, restaurants, bus lines, and heavy pedestrian traffic daily.
That’s part of the reason this incident is drawing so much attention.
The idea that an elderly woman could allegedly be assaulted and robbed during peak evening hours has many questioning whether enough police presence exists in the area.
Investigators have not yet released the suspect’s identity, but NYPD officials say surveillance images and additional evidence are being reviewed as the investigation continues.
The NYPD is urging anyone who may have witnessed the attack or who recognizes the suspect to come forward.
As concerns over violent robberies targeting senior citizens in New York City continue to grow, many Bronx residents are hoping for a swift arrest in this disturbing case.
