BRONX, NY - A Bronx man was slashed on a busy street during school dismissal time in a random attack.
The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a violent assault in the Bronx earlier this month. The incident happened within the confines of the 49 Precinct and left a 38-year-old man injured after what police described as a sudden slashing attack.
According to authorities, the assault took place on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m. near 1172 East Gun Hill Road in the Bronx. Police said the victim was walking along the street when he was approached by an unknown man who allegedly slashed him across the left cheek with an unidentified object.
Investigators say the suspect immediately fled the area on foot, heading westbound on East Gun Hill Road before disappearing. Emergency medical crews responded to the scene and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was listed in stable condition.
The NYPD has now released information about the suspect as part of its ongoing investigation into the incident. The individual being sought is described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing blue pants, a blue and black shirt, and a blue hat.
Residents in the area say incidents like this have raised concerns about daytime violence in the neighborhood. The attack happened during the afternoon hours, a time when East Gun Hill Road is often crowded with pedestrians, shoppers, and commuters.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the attack or who recognizes the suspect to come forward. Detectives assigned to the 49 Precinct are continuing to investigate the case and review any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras.
