BRONX, NY - Cops arrested a suspect in a morning shooting in the Bronx. Investigators are still trying to determine why the gunman took a shot a Morris Heights man.
The NYPD says an arrest has been made in connection to an early morning shooting that happened in the Bronx last month.
According to police, 23-year-old Niquan Terry of Webster Avenue was arrested on May 7, 2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m. within the confines of the 46th Precinct.
Terry is now facing several charges, including assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment following what investigators described as a dangerous shooting incident in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx.
The arrest comes after weeks of investigation into the April 2026 Bronx shooting near Davidson Avenue and West 177th Street that prompted police to seek help from the public in identifying the suspect.
Authorities say the incident happened on Monday, April 20, 2026, at around 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of Davidson Avenue and West 177th Street.
Investigators allege that an unidentified individual displayed a firearm and fired shots toward a 30-year-old man before fleeing the scene in a black sedan.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The NYPD had previously released surveillance images while searching for the suspect connected to the attempted assault shooting investigation in the Bronx 46th Precinct. Police have not yet released additional information regarding a possible motive behind the shooting.
Residents in the area say they remain concerned about gun violence in the neighborhood, especially following incidents involving daytime shootings on busy Bronx streets.
Officials have not said whether the suspect and victim knew each other prior to the shooting.
As of Friday, Terry remained charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and reckless endangerment in connection to the Bronx attempted assault shooting from April 20, 2026.
