BRONX, NY - A gunman walked up to a parked car in the Bronx and opened fire, hitting a teen inside who was waiting to go to school, cops said. Investigators are looking into the possibility that this was a gang hit.

According to police, the shooting happened at approximately 7:25 a.m. on May 6, 2026, near Seward Avenue and Rosedale Avenue, close to the Soundview Houses within the confines of the 43rd Precinct and Police Service Area 8.

The teen was sitting in the rear of a car parked at the intersection. Cops said the teen was waiting for a ride to school, when the gunman walked up to the car, targeted the teen and fired. Multiple rounds were pumped into the car, one round striking the victim in the left thigh.

The gunman then ran off.

EMS crews responded to the scene and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Authorities believe the teenager may have been intentionally targeted, although investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.

The NYPD released surveillance media early Thursday morning showing the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting.

Police described the individual as a man with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing a black sweater over a black T-shirt.

After the shooting, authorities said the suspect fled the area on foot, running northbound along Rosedale Avenue before escaping to parts unknown.

Detectives assigned to the 43rd Precinct and PSA 8 continue to investigate the incident.

The shooting has raised concerns among residents living near the Soundview Houses, particularly because the violence unfolded during the early morning hours when students and commuters were beginning their day.

Law enforcement sources told investigators that the victim was seated in a parked vehicle at the time of the attack. Police have not confirmed whether anyone else was inside the vehicle when the shots were fired.

At this time, investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses who may have seen the suspect before or after the shooting.

Officials have not announced any arrests.

Residents in the area say they hope the suspect is quickly identified before additional violence occurs in the neighborhood.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The case has also drawn attention because the teen shot while waiting for ride to school in Bronx was attacked during the morning commute.
