BRONX, NY - A child has been busted in the shooting of another child in the Bronx. Cops arrested a teenage boy in the grazing of a 5-year-old girl in broad daylight. The shooting has triggered new fears in the city of children in the crosshairs of gun violence following the fatal shooting a newborn girl in Brooklyn.
According to the NYPD, the shooting happened around 5:25 p.m. on May 13, 2026, in front of 1007 Southern Boulevard within the confines of the 41st Precinct. Authorities say three unidentified individuals allegedly displayed firearms and opened fire, striking the young child with a graze wound to the head.
The child was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem by EMS and is expected to recover. Police confirmed the victim was listed in stable condition following the terrifying incident.
Investigators say the suspects fled southbound on Southern Boulevard toward East 163rd Street immediately after the shooting.
In a major update to the ongoing case, police announced that the second sought individual has now been arrested.
Authorities confirmed that a 15-year-old male was taken into custody on Friday, May 15, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m. within the confines of the 41st Precinct.
The teen is facing multiple serious charges, including:
- Attempted Murder
- Assault (3 counts)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon (2 counts)
- Reckless Endangerment
- Criminal Possession of a Firearm
The arrest comes as detectives continue working to identify and locate the remaining individuals connected to the shooting.
The NYPD also released updated descriptions and additional media connected to the investigation.
The first suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing green headgear, a black sweater, and a brown backpack.
The third suspect is described as a male with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing a black sweater featuring a white logo on the back, grey jeans, and black sneakers.
The shooting has sparked renewed concerns over gun violence involving children in the Bronx, especially in heavily populated residential neighborhoods.
Residents in the area say they are disturbed that a child was caught in the middle of gunfire during daylight hours. The incident also highlights ongoing concerns surrounding violent crime near Southern Boulevard in the Bronx and the increasing dangers posed by illegal firearms in New York City communities.
The shooting comes one month after 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore was fatally struck by a stray bullet in Brooklyn.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to step forward as detectives continue piecing together the circumstances surrounding the attack.
