BRONX, NY - A suspect, who looked like he would be more interested in asking for directions to the local senior center, instead is being sought for a knife-point chain snatching of a teenager on a subway platform.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at approximately 8:15 a.m., on the southbound 4 train platform at the 176 Street subway station within the confines of the 46th Precinct and Transit District 12.

Authorities report that a 17-year-old female victim was sitting on a bench while waiting for a train when she was approached by an unidentified male. The individual sat next to her before suddenly snatching a necklace from her neck, police said.

When the victim attempted to recover her stolen property, the situation escalated. The suspect displayed a knife, causing the victim to back away.

The individual then fled the subway station on foot, heading in an unknown direction.

The teenage victim sustained minor injuries during the robbery, according to police. However, she refused medical attention at the scene.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police released a description of the individual sought in connection with the robbery on the NYC subway 4 train line.

The suspect is described as a male who was last seen wearing black hat, black and green jacket, black jeans, black sneakers and black backpack.

Authorities have also referenced attached media showing the individual, which they hope will assist in identifying him.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information about the 176 Street subway station robbery suspect to come forward.
