Authorities say Michael Lightly, 41, who resides on University Avenue in the Bronx, has been arrested and charged with assault in connection to the incident.
The assault took place on March 19, 2026, at approximately 1:10 p.m., aboard a southbound BX3 bus near the busy intersection of University Avenue and West Fordham Road in the Bronx.
Police reported that a 42-year-old MTA bus driver was operating the vehicle when a verbal dispute broke out between him and a passenger.
According to investigators, the suspect became increasingly agitated before punching the bus driver directly in the face.
The attack left the driver with a laceration to his lip and significant pain. EMS responded to the scene and transported the injured driver to St. Barnabas Hospital. He was listed in stable condition.
