BRONX, NY - A disturbing incident in the Bronx is drawing attention after a young child was violently attacked in a public park, raising serious concerns about safety in neighborhood spaces.


Police say the assault happened on Friday, April 17, 2026, at around 6:00 p.m. inside Grant Park, located at East 169th Street and Grant Avenue. According to investigators, an unidentified individual approached a 9-year-old boy and launched a brutal attack, punching the child multiple times in the face before using a cable charger as a weapon.





Authorities report that after the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading northbound on Sheridan Avenue. As of now, the individual remains unidentified.


The young victim suffered a laceration to the face and was quickly assisted by emergency responders. EMS transported the child to BronxCare Health System, where he was treated and is currently listed in stable condition. 


While the victim is expected to recover physically, the incident has left many in the community shaken. Public parks are typically seen as safe places for children and families, but this attack has sparked renewed fears about safety and supervision. 


Investigators are actively working to identify and locate the suspect. Police have not yet released a detailed description, but they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
