BRONX, NY - Several hundred Bronxites converged on Lou Gehrig Plaza at East 161 Street and Grand Concourseto attend the third ‘No Kings’ rally on Saturday, March 28. The event was organized by the Northwest Bronx Indivisible, the Unity Democratic Club, the New York Progressive Action Network and other organizations as they protested against President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies including his military interventions in Venezuela and Iran, placing tariffs on our allies, cuts to healthcare and SNAP and ICE agents detaining and even killing American citizens.
Local elected officials in attendance included Borough President Vanessa Gibson, State Senator Gustavo Rivera and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz.
The first speaker, Borough President Vanessa Gibson told the crowd, “We represent the people of this borough and the people of this city, so today at this “No Kings Rally,” it is a reminder that we have the power, that we have the influence, we have the right to stand together against this administration and we are going to make sure that we keep organizing.”
Addressing the crowd, many carrying signs or waving flags, Assemblymember Emerita Torres, a former U.S. government diplomat who worked at the United Nations, said, “When we bully other countries instead of working with them, we don’t look strong, we become isolated, we lose trust and that makes us less safe here in the Bronx and across the United States and around the world.” She added, “That means more instability, more threats. And when diplomacy is not an option, the risk of unnecessary wars rises.”
State Senator Gustavo Rivera said, “Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something.”
“Roberta” of Riverdale was attending her third ‘No Kings’ rally and said after the event, “What I’m really ready for is for us to vote him (Trump) out.”
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of people turned out for the No Kings rally in Midtown Manhattan and according to the UK’s-based The Mirror reported that an estimated 50 Trump supporters squared off in heated verbal debate with No Kings demonstrators near Trump's Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
