BRONX, NY - Cops are looking for a clothes conscious gunman who opened fire near a Bronx senior center before getting into a sporty SUV.

The NYPD has released new video footage of a suspect wanted in connection with a Bronx shooting near a senior center on Nereid Avenue, and investigators are asking the public for help identifying the person involved.

According to police, the incident happened early Monday morning in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, where an unidentified individual allegedly fired multiple gunshots outside a residential building.

Police say the shooting occurred Monday, March 9, 2026, at approximately 4:50 a.m. in front of 708 Nereid Avenue, within the confines of the 47th Precinct.

Authorities reported that a suspect discharged a firearm several times on the street, creating a dangerous situation in an area located near a Bronx senior center and residential buildings.

Despite the gunfire, no injuries were reported, and there were no immediate reports of property damage. Police say the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction shortly after the shots were fired.

Investigators later classified the case as reckless endangerment, a charge often applied when gunfire places others at risk even if no one is hurt.

As the investigation continues, the NYPD released newly obtained surveillance video that shows the individual believed to be responsible for the gunfire. Officials hope the footage will help members of the public recognize the suspect.

Police say identifying the individual quickly is important because gunfire incidents in residential neighborhoods—especially near senior housing—pose a serious safety concern.

The department is urging anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area around Nereid Avenue early Monday morning to come forward.

Residents in the neighborhood say the early-morning shooting is unsettling, particularly because it happened near housing and facilities serving older adults.

Even though no one was injured, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence in Bronx neighborhoods during overnight hours, when streets are typically quieter but still populated by residents leaving for work or returning home.

Police say patrols in the area remain active while detectives continue searching for the suspect.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information about the suspect in the Bronx Nereid Avenue shooting to contact investigators. Tips from the public can play a key role in helping police identify individuals captured in surveillance footage.

Officials say even small details—such as recognizing clothing, body language, or the person’s route after leaving the scene—could help move the investigation forward.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
