NYPD Seeks Suspect in Bronx MTA Bus Robbery Near East 188th Street and Grand Concourse

BRONX, NY - Usually mass transit riders have to worry about getting mugged before they get on the bus. In the Bronx, a rider was beaten and stripped of his jewelry by a mugger.


According to police, the incident happened on Friday, March 13, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., near the northeast corner of East 188th Street and Grand Concourse, within the confines of the 46th Precinct.



Authorities say a 42-year-old man was riding on an MTA bus when he was suddenly approached by an unknown individual. Without warning, the suspect allegedly punched the victim in the face before forcibly removing jewelry from him.


The stolen items included a pair of earrings and a chain worn around the victim’s neck.





After the attack, the suspect quickly fled the bus and escaped on foot, heading eastbound on East 188th Street. His current whereabouts remain unknown.


The victim sustained minor facial injuries during the robbery. Fortunately, he did not require hospitalization, police said.





While the injuries were not severe, the incident highlights ongoing concerns about public safety on Bronx public transportation, especially during daytime hours.


The NYPD has released a description of the individual they are seeking in connection with the robbery. The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants, a black winter hat and black sneakers.



Police are urging anyone who may recognize the individual from the description or from released media to come forward.
