BRONX, NY - Just when you though it couldn’t get any crazier in NYC with the random attacks, a man in the Bronx took it to 11. Cops say he punched a female crossing guard while she was crossing children near a school. No motive for the attack has been determined.
According to police, the incident happened on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Gerard Avenue and East 167th Street near PS/IS 218 in Highbridge.
Police say a 46-year-old female NYPD school crossing guard was performing her regular duties at the intersection—helping children and families safely cross the street during the busy morning school rush—when the attack occurred.
Authorities report that an unidentified individual approached the crossing guard and punched her in the chest with a closed fist. The sudden assault happened while the crossing guard was actively working to manage pedestrian safety in the area.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading northbound on Gerard Avenue, according to police.
The crossing guard suffered pain to her chest following the assault.
EMS responded to the location and treated the victim at the scene. Police say she later traveled by private means to a local hospital for additional medical evaluation and treatment.
Officials have not released further details about her condition, but the incident has raised concerns about the safety of crossing guards who work daily to protect children at busy intersections across New York City.
