NYPD Seeks Public’s Help Identifying Suspects in Assault on 69-Year-Old Man on Grand Concourse in the Bronx

Bronx Horror That Would Make Poe Proud - Man Attacked with Machete Near Horror Icon’s Home

BRONX, NY - A 69-year-old Bronx man was terrorized in a scene that could have been taken from an Edgar Allan Poe story. In broad daylight a group of attackers terrorized the victim with a machete a block away from Poe’s home.




According to the NYPD, the incident occurred on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at approximately 5:42 p.m. in front of 2685 Grand Concourse, a block from Poe Park and the centerpiece Edgar Allan Poe’ cottage.


Police say the victim, a 69-year-old man, was approached by four unidentified individuals while he was outside the building on Grand Concourse. During the confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly displayed a machete while two others began punching and kicking the victim multiple times.




Investigators say the attack left the man with injuries to his left eye and left pinky finger. Despite the violent nature of the assault, authorities reported that the victim’s injuries were considered minor and he was not hospitalized.


The suspects fled the area immediately after the attack.


Following the assault, all four individuals ran from the scene on foot, traveling southbound along Grand Concourse, one of the Bronx’s busiest thoroughfares.





Detectives with the NYPD are now urging anyone who may have information about the suspects involved in the Bronx machete assault on a 69-year-old man near 2685 Grand Concourse to come forward.


Authorities often rely on tips from residents, local businesses, and people who may have been in the area at the time of the incident to help identify individuals involved in violent crimes.


Anyone who recognizes the suspects or may have information about the March 1, 2026 Bronx assault investigation on Grand Concourse is encouraged to contact the NYPD.


The investigation into the violent attack on an elderly man in the Bronx on Grand Concourse remains ongoing. Detectives are continuing to review surveillance footage from nearby buildings and businesses in an effort to track the suspects’ movements before and after the assault.




Police are hopeful that members of the community may be able to help identify the individuals involved and bring the case closer to resolution.
