BRONX, NY - Maybe it was the blonde hair or the designer bag, fur coat or high-priced headphones that gave her away. Cops in the Bronx nabbed a suspect a few hours after her photo was broadcasted over the news and social media.

Cops arrested the woman in connection with beatdown inside a subway station elevator in Bedford Park

Authorities say the suspect — who reportedly stood out with blonde hair, a designer bag, a fur coat, and high-priced headphones — was taken into custody just hours after her photo began circulating online and on television.

According to the NYPD, the arrest happened on Thursday, March 11, 2026, at approximately 6:40 p.m. within the confines of the NYPD 49th Precinct in the Bronx.

Police identified the suspect as Maritza J. Meade, a 40-year-old woman who lives on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. She now faces two counts of assault connected to a violent confrontation at the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station in the Bronx earlier in the week.

The incident happened Monday evening, March 9, 2026, at around 6:20 p.m. at the Bedford Park Boulevard Subway Station.

Investigators say the altercation began inside an elevator at the station, leading to what police describe as a Bronx subway elevator assault involving a 69-year-old man.

Police say Meade became involved in a verbal dispute with a 69-year-old man while both were inside the elevator.

During the argument, authorities allege the woman struck the victim multiple times in the face with a closed fist, resulting in what investigators described as a physical attack during an argument inside a Bronx subway station elevator.

The assault reportedly happened quickly, leaving the victim with minor injuries.

Despite being struck several times, the man declined medical attention at the scene, police said. Authorities later described the case as a reported assault on a senior inside the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station elevator.

After the attack, the suspect fled the station on foot, heading eastbound along Bedford Park Boulevard. Officers responding to the scene were initially unable to locate her.

Investigators later released an image of the suspect to the public in an effort to identify and locate her, turning the case into a widely shared NYPD search for a Bronx subway assault suspect caught on camera.

The distinctive clothing and accessories she was wearing — including the fur coat and designer-style bag — quickly caught attention online and helped circulate the photo widely across local news and social media.

Authorities say the suspect was identified and arrested later the next day.

Meade was taken into custody on March 11 and formally charged with two counts of assault in connection with what police describe as a Bronx subway station elevator assault investigation involving a senior victim.

Incidents like this continue to raise concerns about safety in the city’s subway system, particularly inside confined spaces like station elevators.
