Man Slashed Multiple Times After Argument in Bronx’s Mott Haven, NYPD Says

BRONX, NY - Shooting your mouth off in the Bronx usually leads to being slugged. Instead cops say a verbal agrument led to a man being slashed repeatedly throughout his body.
The NYPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with a violent assault that took place in the Bronx’s 40th Precinct earlier this month. Investigators released surveillance photos in an attempt to catch the crazed attacker.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at approximately 10:18 a.m., in front of 385 East 144 Street, a busy area in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.
Investigators say the suspect became involved in a verbal dispute with a 35-year-old man. What began as an argument quickly escalated when the unidentified individual allegedly produced a sharp instrument and slashed the victim multiple times about the body.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot, traveling northbound on 3rd Avenue, according to NYPD officials.
Emergency Medical Services responded quickly and transported the victim to Lincoln Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The NYPD has released a description of the individual they are attempting to identify. The suspect is described as a male, last seen wearing a black hat, black ski mask and a green jacket. He was also seen wearing blue jeans and dark-colored sneakers.
Police are urging anyone who recognizes the individual or has information related to the assault to come forward.
Detectives assigned to the 40th Precinct assault investigation continue to review evidence, including surveillance footage from the surrounding area. Authorities believe public assistance could play a crucial role in identifying the suspect.
This incident adds to ongoing concerns about street violence in the Bronx, particularly during daytime hours in residential and commercial corridors like East 144 Street.
