Just before 8 a.m., police officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment building on Johnson Avenue in Spuyten Duyvil, a quiet neighborhood in the northwest Bronx. What they found inside was a devastating scene that investigators are now describing as a domestic-related murder-suicide involving a Port Authority police officer.
According to sources, a 55-year-old man, later identified as a Port Authority police officer, and a 59-year-old woman were both found with gunshot wounds to the head. Emergency responders pronounced both victims dead at the scene.

A third victim, an 86-year-old woman, was also discovered inside the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. She was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where officials say she remains in critical but stable condition.
Investigators believe the 55-year-old officer shot the two women before turning the gun on himself. Authorities say the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide, though the exact relationship between the three individuals has not yet been confirmed.
Reports claim the murder victim was the officer’s 59-year-old sister. The 89-year-old woman fighting for her life is reported to be the gunman’s mother.
The shooting has shaken residents of the Spuyten Duyvil community, an area not typically associated with violent crime. Neighbors described seeing a heavy police presence outside the building as officers secured the scene and investigators worked through the morning.
“This is just heartbreaking,” one nearby resident said. “You never expect something like this to happen so close to home.”
The Port Authority Police Department has not released additional details about the officer’s background or duty status at the time of the shooting. The NYPD investigation into the Bronx murder-suicide remains ongoing, and officials say more information will be released as next of kin are notified.
Incidents involving law enforcement officers and domestic violence often raise difficult questions about access to firearms, mental health support, and warning signs that may go unnoticed. At this stage, authorities have not indicated whether there were prior reports of domestic disputes at the residence.
As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with information related to the Johnson Avenue shooting in the Bronx to come forward.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more details become available.
