BRONX, NEW YORK - The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with a violent assault that took place earlier this month near Westchester Square in the Bronx.

According to police, the incident occurred within the confines of the NYPD’s 45th Precinct on, January 7, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., in front of 2430 East Tremont Avenue.

Investigators say a 29-year-old man became involved in a verbal dispute with an unidentified individual. That argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly struck the victim in the face multiple times with a baseball bat, causing a laceration.

Victim Transported to Hospital in Stable Condition

Emergency medical services responded to the scene shortly after the assault. The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center where he was treated and listed in stable condition, police said.

After the attack, the suspect fled the location on foot and has not yet been apprehended. The direction of travel remains unknown.

Suspect Description Released by NYPD

The NYPD released a description of the individual they are seeking in hopes that someone in the community may recognize him.

Police say the suspect is a male, last seen wearing:

  • A green sweatshirt

  • A white shirt

  • Red pants

  • Black and white sneakers

Authorities stress that even small details can make a difference. Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the assault is urged to contact law enforcement.

Tips can be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers, and the NYPD reminds the public that no piece of information is too minor when it comes to solving violent crimes.

Assaults involving weapons, particularly in busy residential corridors like East Tremont Avenue, raise serious public safety concerns. Investigators say community cooperation is often critical in identifying suspects who flee before officers arrive.

The investigation remains active, and police say updates will be released as more information becomes available.
