The defendant, Mushin Morshed, 65, of the Bronx, was sentenced on January 20, 2026, in Bronx Supreme Court. The sentence includes four years in prison and three years of post-release supervision following his conviction for third-degree Criminal Sexual Act, second-degree Sexual Abuse, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Sexual Abuse Began on Victim’s 13th Birthday
According to trial testimony, the sexual abuse began in 2017, when the victim was just 13 years old and celebrating her birthday. Prosecutors told the jury that Morshed continued to sexually abuse the teen over several years, often while other family members were present in the home.
In one particularly disturbing incident, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim while she was preparing to celebrate Eid with her family, prosecutors said. The abuse occurred in familiar settings, adding to the trauma experienced by the young victim.
District Attorney Clark condemned the defendant’s actions and emphasized continued support for the victim.
“The defendant sexually assaulted the victim while she was celebrating her 13th birthday and then repeatedly abused her for years,” Clark said. “Today, he is being held accountable for his heinous actions. We continue to offer support services to the victim.”
Morshed was convicted by a jury on October 8, 2025. He was sentenced by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Laurence Busching, bringing the case to a close after years of investigation and prosecution.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by the Bronx District Attorney’s Office to aggressively prosecute child sexual abuse cases in the Bronx and to hold offenders accountable through the criminal justice system.
The Bronx District Attorney’s Office continues to prioritize cases involving sexual abuse of minors, offering survivor support services while pursuing justice through trial and sentencing.
Anyone affected by sexual abuse is encouraged to seek help through local victim assistance programs or law enforcement.
