BRONX LOCAL NEWS - A retiree succumbed to his injuries after hanging for a week at a local hospital - the victim was struck by a box truck while crossing the street in the Hub.  


The NYPD announced the death of the 68-year-old Bronx man who succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. The pedestrian was struck by a box truck while crossing East 149th Street and 3rd Avenue in the Hub shopping district.


According to the NYPD, the accident happened at around 12:20 p.m. on October 28, near East 149th Street and 3rd Avenue in the 40th Precinct. Investigators say a 68-year-old man was walking southbound mid-block across East 149th Street when he was struck by a 2019 Isuzu box truck that was heading west.


The driver — a 40-year-old man — stayed at the scene after the crash.

Emergency crews rushed the victim to nearby Lincoln Hospital with injuries to both legs. Police said he was initially in stable condition, but his health took a turn for the worse, and he was pronounced dead later that evening, around 7 p.m.


The NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is continuing to look into the cause of the crash. 


The identity of the man who was killed is being withheld until his family is notified.
