BRONX LOCAL NEWS: A pair of smooth-talking thieves used a prayer as a distraction to rob a 63-year-old woman in the Bronx, police said.

It happened around 1:35 p.m. on November 2, 2025, at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and East 156 Street. According to investigators, the woman was standing on the corner when two unidentified women approached her and asked if they could pray for her.

The victim agreed — but while the suspects appeared to be offering a blessing, they were actually taking her jewelry. Police say the pair removed the woman’s earrings and rings before running off westbound toward East 156 Street. Fortunately, the victim wasn’t hurt.

Authorities are now looking for the two women involved.

The first suspect is described as having a light complexion and long hair. She was last seen wearing a tan sweatshirt, black jeans, white sneakers, and carrying a multicolored handbag.

The second suspect also has a light complexion and long hair, with a heavier build. She was wearing a multicolored jacket, a multicolored vest, black pants, and gray shoes.

Photos and video of the suspects have been released and are available through the NYPD’s DCPI.
