Bronx Painted Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

BRONX - In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield held a “Pink Power Party” breast cancer awareness kick-off event on October 10th at Anthem’s Community Service Center in Hunts Point.





This mini-resource fair was held to celebrate the survivors of breast cancer, as well as to stress to community members the importance of regular breast self-examinations and mammograms.


During the Pink Power Party at Anthem’s Community Service Center, located at 968 Southern Blvd., mammogram screenings and breast cancer health education were provided by St. Barnabas Health for the attendees.


Additional Pink Power Parties will occur this month in Queens, Brooklyn and Nassau County. Attendees are asked to dress in their favorite pink attire to show support!

“Fun ‘Pink’ Photos with friends and family are always a highlight of these events,” said Wendy Dominguez, Community Outreach Manager, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. “So is learning the importance of breast cancer awareness and early detection,” she added. 


Thanks to advancements in early detection methods and support for breast cancer, the chances of survival have increased immensely. Regular checks for breast cancer are very important because if it is caught in its earliest localized stages, the five-year relative survival rate is 99%.
