BRONX - The NYPD is searching for the driver who struck a woman crossing the street in the Bronx. The pedestrian died at the scene and the driver took off, cops said.

At around 7:12 pm on January 13, 53-year-old Lourdes Camilo was crossing the corner of Melrose Avenue and East 157th Street. Surveillance video taken from a local store shows Camilo halfway crossing the street when she stops and looks at oncoming cars from the opposite direction. However, she appears to not look for oncoming cars in her lane.

The video shows a white Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV traveling northbound when he strikes her.

An investigation by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad determined what happened next. After being struck by the SUV, Camilo was thrown into oncoming traffic in the opposite direction. She was then struck by a Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound on Melrose Avenue.

EMS responded to the location and pronounced Camilo dead at the scene.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee that initially struck the victim drove off. Cops are looking to speak with the driver.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler that struck Camilo from the opposite lane remained at the scene. No arrests have been made and “the investigation remains ongoing,” cops said.
