BRONX - Cops have arrested two suspects in the vicious beat down in which a straphanger was stabbed for wishing members of the group a “Happy New Year.”

The NYPD announced the arrests of 19-year-old Emmanuel Awah of Mount Eden and 19-year-old Elias Afflada of the Concourse. Both men were charged with attempted murder, robbery and assault.

Police announced that they are still searching for two other suspects in connection with the attack.

At around 8:45 pm on January 1, a 29-year-old man was standing on the southbound platform of the “D” Train at the 182 Street-183 Street subway station. According to police the straphanger wished members of the group a “Happy New Year.” However, the well wisher and the group began arguing. Then members of the group pounced, repeatedly punching the victim.

Cops said one member of the group pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim throughout the body.

The attackers then ran out of the subway station to the street above.
