Man, 49, Dies in Hutch Crash Near City Island

BRONX - A driver was killed when his car crashed into a tree and light pole on the Hutchinson River Parkway near City Island.


At around 2:45 am on September 4, police responded to a serious car accident near Exit 3 of the Hutch near City Island.



Responding EMS declared the driver dead at the scene.


Police later identified the deceased as 49-year-old Walden Spence of Queens. 




NYPD's Highway District Collision Investigation Squad at the scene determined that the driver lost control of his car. Cops said the 2008 gray Infiniti was traveling southbound on the Hutch when he “failed to navigate the roadway and struck a light pole and tree.”



Cops said the investigation is ongoing.
