BRONX - A Bronx man was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for a 2022 shooting that left a 16-year-old girl dead and two other students wounded when he opened fire near a high school.

Jeremiah Ryan, 18, pled guilty to opening fire near University Prep Charter High School. Prosecutors said Ryan had got into an argument with two other men near the school and fired off six shots at them.

Instead of striking his target he wounded two teen bystanders and fatally shot 16-year-old Angellyh Yambo.

“The defendant was in a dispute with two men when he fired multiple shots from a ‘ghost gun’ striking Angellyh Yambo, 16, and two more teens who were walking home from school,” said Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark. “His actions ended the life of a beautiful young girl and shattered the lives of the survivors and the families of the victims.”

Ryan pleaded guilty to second-degree Murder on August 4, 2023.

“Since Angellyh’s death, her family members have channeled their grief into action by starting a foundation to honor her memory,” Clark said. “They have met with elected officials and supported legislation targeting ghost guns and have attended multiple anti-violence events my Office has held. Through their work, Angellyh’s memory will live on forever.”
