Borough Groups Join Forces to Oppose Cross-Bronx Expansion Project

New York State is driving a $900 million effort to “transform” the highway to accommodate bridge repair work. Advocates and locals are trying to hit the brakes.  This article originally appeared in The City. By  Jonathan Custodio Follow @Bronxvoice1 BRONX - More than a dozen community and advocacy groups are joining forces against a $900 million “Five Bridges Project” to “transform” the Cross Bronx Expressway.  That project, which Gov. Kathy Hochul announced in January, aims to repair five bridges along the Cross Bronx Expressway. Key to the project is a “multi-modal connector” — temporary new roadways to keep traffic flowing that would then become permanent bus, bike and pedestrian lanes alongside the highway. A $150 million federal grant is helping pay for the project. BRONX - A Bronx man had his motorcycle stolen right in front of him when he was sucker punched by a robber in front of a mall near Yankee Stadium.

At around 4:40 am on July 1, a 34-year-old man had his motorcycle parked in front of the Bronx Terminal Market at 610 Exterior Street. Cops said the motorcycle rider was in a heated arguement with a man at the location when he was attacked.

According to police, another man quietly walked up behind the biker and proceeded to punch him repeatedly in the back of the head. As the victim was staggered to the floor, the suspect he was arguing with removed the victim’s cellphone.

The thief then hopped on the victim’s motorcycle and drove off speeding towards East 149th Street.

The man who punched the victim fled on foot toward the Major Deegan Expressway.

Cops said the victim suffered bruising and swelling to the head as result of the beating.

Investigators released surveillance video of a man they suspect is the one who assaulted the motorcyclist. The suspect is described as a male with a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and dark shorts. According to the grainy video, the suspect appears to have long dreadlocks.
