Borough Groups Join Forces to Oppose Cross-Bronx Expansion Project

New York State is driving a $900 million effort to “transform” the highway to accommodate bridge repair work. Advocates and locals are trying to hit the brakes.  This article originally appeared in The City. By  Jonathan Custodio Follow @Bronxvoice1 BRONX - More than a dozen community and advocacy groups are joining forces against a $900 million “Five Bridges Project” to “transform” the Cross Bronx Expressway.  That project, which Gov. Kathy Hochul announced in January, aims to repair five bridges along the Cross Bronx Expressway. Key to the project is a “multi-modal connector” — temporary new roadways to keep traffic flowing that would then become permanent bus, bike and pedestrian lanes alongside the highway. A $150 million federal grant is helping pay for the project. BRONX - A young man was brutally stabbed to death during an argument inside Bronx Park. Police released the name of the victim in the hopes that witnesses will come forward with information leading to the arrest of the killer.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Carlos Borbon of 204th Street.

According to police, Borbon was in Bronx Park, which is also known as French Charley’s Park, on July 28. At around 5:30 pm cops said Borbon had got into a verbal argument with another man in the park.

As the argument became heated, cops said the other man pulled out a knife and stabbed bourbon 11 times. The attacker ran out of the park in an unknown direction. EMS raced Borbon to nearby Saint Barnabas Hospital but it was too late. He was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

The investigation is ongoing. At this time police do not have a photo of the suspect. It is unknown if a camera on the street was able to capture an image of the suspect fleeing the park. In addition, police do not have a description of the suspect.

Police have released a photo of Borbon in the hope that other people who were at the park recognized the victim and may have seen the killer before or during the argument.
